Ed Mayo of the New Economics Foundation then gave a general account of social banking, explained why it was needed, described some of the community finance initiatives that were already taking place and outlined the further developments that he wished to see. Fred Goodwin of the Royal Bank of Scotland offered a banker’s perspective, stressing the importance of integration, flexibility and focus in developing effective answers to financial exclusion.
