A report of three daylong seminars jointly organised by the Cabinet Office Women’s Unit and The Smith Institute and supported by Boots The Chemists. The aim of the seminars was to follow up, in a regional context, some of the topics raised at a transatlantic summit on “Women in the New Economy”, held in November 1999. The first seminar, on “Women in the Labour Market”, took place at the University of Leeds on 15th May 2000; the second, on “Women, Enterprise and Information Technology”, at the University of Sussex on 5th July 2000; and the third, on “Women Returners: Recruitment, Retention and Training”, at The Boots Company Group Headquarters in Nottingham on 15th July 2000. A wide range of speakers included Government Ministers, academics, representatives of regional agencies, training bodies and local enterprise centres, and women entrepreneurs.
