For individual research projects the Smith Institute deploys a range of research methods, including both quantitative and qualitative analysis. We are also experienced in analysing datasets, including departmental micro datasets, to thoroughly understand specific challenges and truly understand cause and effect. The Institute’s quantitative analysis also enables us to not only describe the problem but understand the scale of intervention needed and the costs and benefits of our policy recommendations.
This quantitative research is supplemented by our qualitative work. Our focus groups, interviews, events and discussions with experts and practitioners enable us to understand the challenges they face and their views on the feasibility and effectiveness of possible reforms.
